| NETWORK ATTACH RAID |
| Networking low volumes of CD and DVD ROMs
can be performed from a desktop CPU, but handling larger volumes,
or distributing discs between different networks and operating systems
can prove more of a challenge. |
| The second generation of OptoMedia OpTower
CD & DVD Towers replaces this problem with a multi-protocol think
server Network Attached Storage (NAS) server, attaching to an existing
network via 10/100 BaseT cabling. |
| All administration of the server (once initial
setup is complete) is via a web browser, enabling the NAS to appear
in a native manner to Novell, Windows, Unix, Macintosh and as an intranet
(HTTP) server. Either singularly or, to all platforms concurrently.
|
| When a disc is loaded into one of the CD
or DVD ROM drives it is automatically loaded to the hard disk, the
default capacity can house up to twenty seven 650MB CD-ROMs, with
the expanded version holding up to fifty five full 650MB CDs. Access
of data from hard disc is up to 20 times faster than from a CD or
DVD ROM drive. Concurrent user access is also much enhanced by the
use of hard disk caching. |
| Entry level for the DVD-ROM system is 7
(4.7GB) discs with a maximum of 35 full DVD-ROMs on a single channel
system. Once the disc has been loaded onto the cache drive individual
access permissions can be set for the disc (if required), and the
disc removed and stored in a secure environment. |
| For high availability access, a 36 CD-ROM
version of the OpTower is also available enabling up to 36 CDs to
be cached to a RAID sub-system enabling high up time and availability
of all data. |
